original canvas murals
portfolio images represent original mural designs which can be produced to your custom size and color preferences.

The Portfolio. The portfolio images are available for custom and stock printed murals. They can also be used as templates to design your own original canvas mural.

For original canvas murals, choose the features you want in your mural. Which is described below. The next step is to describe your desires and Gordon will transcribe them into a sketch.

The Sketch. The sketch is very important to clarify what has been discussed. The sketch fee is $500. It is here that elements of perspective and subject are identified. The cost of the sketch will be deducted from the total cost of your mural upon commissioning by you. Up to two major revisions to the initial sketch design are included in the sketch fee.

The next step, upon approving a sketch, is to commission Gordon to begin the piece. A commission deposit is required to schedule.

Commissioning an Original. Your choice of medium (acrylic or oil) is a decision based on subject matter as well as budget and time constraints. Acrylics are the least expensive and are suitable for most designs. Acrylics deliver vivid representations of garden scenes, landscapes, and statuary. Oils are ideal for figures and statuary or for creating a rich classical quality. Nuances of skin tone and delicately glazed figures make oils ideal for a mural of superior classical quality.

A commission requires a 50% percent deposit on the total cost of the mural (Remember that sketch fees already paid are included). Upon commissioning a mural with Gordon Meggison IV, the necessary time, materials, and studio space are dedicated to your project. Time to complete a piece may range from two months to six months depending on the time available in Gordon Meggison's calendar.

After the first sepias are applied to the prepared canvas, photographic prints are sent to you so that you can see for yourself the beginnings of the work. Upon completion, a professional photograph will be sent to you and the work will be prepared for delivery. At this point, final payment is made and the mural is shipped via insured mail, or in some cases is hand delivered and installed by Gordon Meggison.

The Installation. The installation of an original or a printed canvas mural requires skill. We recommend a reputable professional wallpaper hanger for this task. Walls must be properly painted with quality primer. If there is a texture to the wall, it will need to first be skimmed to reduce bumps that will blemish the canvas. A complete set of instructions will be provided with the mural as a guide for the installer.

Canvas murals are very durable as is the paint with which they are rendered. Gordon prepares original canvas murals with high grade artists gesso, and paints with professional acrylics and oils. With canvas murals, removal and relocation of the mural is possible.
